TREEHUGGER HOME

Aside from it being different in a way that it’s molded from its own unique landscape and environment, it’s different because it’s not just a plain physical structure for us, but in our sight, and the story behind it, is it being a symbol of hope in times of uncertainty, and a reminder to keep trusting that God’s safety net has always been at work even if we cannot see it at the moment.

Designed and built during the lockdown. May this also inspire families who wish to build a place of their own at a limited budget. We had started building our home in the city, but during the pandemic we had to sell it, close down our cafe business and move back to our hometown in the province, where we also had a farm started. We are both treehuggers . So in this tiny home we tried our best to live among the trees.

Marvin planned the livable space around three existing mature native trees in the land. The trees were there first, in respect to it, we should be the one to work around it. We have one in the dining area, one in the bathroom, and the third one in the bedroom. To save on cost, we opted for a pre-painted white roof and added Nipa on top that serves as insulation from heat and muffles the sound of rain when it pours. Wholes were cut on the roof where we added plastic tied with rubber, to provide allowance for the tree trunks and its movements. We opted for screens instead of glass windows and concrete walls, except for the bedroom and bathroom side.

We were used to living in a tiny space, and that truly helped upon designing this home, coz we already know what we would only be needing. Just because our homes may be tiny, that doesn't mean we can't be minimalist and beautify it at the same time. The key is to just pick your most favorite items, that sparks joy (Konmari method) that doesn't change with the season (timeless). Make it a showroom of your favorite things that you actually use.

S MOUNTAIN HOME

A home is felt within the heart, where the physical architecture and interior design just humbly play the role of making a place conducive to such. This home was designed to blend in its surroundings, with open and straightforward layout to simply hold space for the family and their daily activities, and marvel in their natural environment that's opened up around them. Designed and built in the mountains away from the crowd in this pandemic.
